Postcard from Lebanon, last May Day

If we heaped together all the love that mothers have for their children, all the love of husbands and wives, all the love of all the angels and saints, it could never equal Mary’s love for even a single soul. — Saint Alphonsus Liguori

(Our Lady of Lebanon, Harissa, where I was amid throngs of pilgrims last May Day in Lebanon. The love was everywhere.)

Beautiful saying and statue, I am not familiar with Lebanon nor have heard of the statue, thanks for sharing.

Recently I was saying an old prayer with others in church and was struck by “The Memorare”, a prayer to the Virgin Mary that I suspect you are all familiar with. I was too when younger but I forgot about it, it sort of goes along with your saying above and the statue.

    The Memorare:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins, my mother, to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

As a child that was one of many prayers that we all knew but most slipped away from me during a period when I didn’t practice my religion. Upon rediscovering it recently I was really struck by its flow and meaning. Likewise your saying above about the summation of all love not equaling Hers. Thanks again for sharing.
